I used to do that, too. Even when I was an ACO, I would do that. But I don't anymore. At some point, I figured out that - although it wasn't the critters' fault - it was not going to get better if they stayed here. If the owner wanted that critter back, it was gonna cost 'em. So I don't even play around anymore. They go straight to the shelter. I take a big deep breath and either load 'em up or make the call. I hate it but I do it.
Oddly enough, the number of 'strays' has decreased exponentially since I started doing that.
